NEPAL IS IN DARKNESS. SHE NEEDS YOU!

NEPAL IS IN DARKNESS. SHE NEEDS YOU!

Dear family in Christ,

Imagine a place of hills and mountains where people have been living for about 5,000 years. Imagine those people being hindus, laying the foundations for Hinduism since their known history and passing down that culture and religion to their offsprings even to this day. Imagine Buddha taking birth in this place giving birth to  Buddhism. Now imagine those people clinging to their religion, their heritage and sadly the source of their darkness for generations for as long as their history could be told. Yes, we are talking about Nepal, a small country that lies between China and India.

Nepal is a beautiful place, spreading over 56.8 sq. miles. Its population is about 26.5 million. It has huge geographical diversity with beautiful himalayas in the north and flat terai in the south. It is a multiethnic country with Nepali as the official language.

NEPAL’S SITUATION:

Nepal has a long history of Hinduism. With the birth of Buddha in 500 B.C, it has a history of Buddhism too. So, the majority of people in Nepal are hindus, followed by the buddhists. The first missionary Portuguese Jesuit Father Juan Cabral visited in Nepal in 1628 and till 1769, Christianity was slowly growing. But Nepal faced its dark age when the new king exiled the christians and banded Christianity (1769-1950). Since then, Nepalese mind has been closed to Christianity. But later with many missionaries coming to Nepal, who preached the gospel not by evangelism but by their witnessing and reaching them in education, health and other needs, people slowly decided to accept Jesus. This resulted for a former hindu country to become a secular country in 2008, and now “door is widely open for Evangelism” in Nepal today.

Adventism first came in Nepal in 1959 with Dr. Stanley Sturges. He came to a town called Banepa and helped to build the first and only Adventist Hospital in Nepal and has been the foundation of Adventism in Nepal.

According to census of 2011 and Nepal Section of Seventh-day Adventist, the religious situation of Nepal is:

Hindu- 81.3%

Buddhists- 9%

Kirants- 3%

Christians- 1.4% (among which, Adventists- 0.034%)

Others- 0.9%

Sadly, there are only about 9,000 adventist people out of 26.5 million people.

While it is true that “door is open for evangelism” in Nepal, ministry is still a hard thing to do in here, because of main following reasons:

– The people here are primarily hindus. They believe that Christianity invades their culture and their heritage and they should protect it.

-The population distributes according to the geography. So, the developed town lies in the south while the places in the himalayas are highly remote. This makes the remote areas very hard to reach and even though if reached, then the people there are very superstitious and wants to have nothing to do with Jesus.

– The Christians in remote villages are still hated and treated as an outcast.

– In the town areas, the Christians are mostly form other denomination and they believe that Adventism is a false denomination and they don’t want to support the Advent massage.

– Many people in the Adventist Church are unaware of Advent massage, which creates an insecurity in their hearts.

So yes, it is legal to conduct evangelism in Nepal. But the hearts of the people are sealed with darkness and because of their negative response, the evangelism in Nepal is still very hard to do and sadly, many christians are getting discouraged in their faith. But God has still been working and still the gospel is being passed around slowly by his grace. God has raised few strong Adventist youths, whose hearts are burning with passion to work for God and spread his word.

OUR VISION:

Our vision is very simple- To share Christ and his great love.

We have been trying and praying about how to do it since very long time and we have realised that it can only be done by reaching them through our lives. We need to reach their personal needs. And for that, we as Adventists needs to be strong and be able to meet those needs. The need definitely is Spiritual, but there are physical aspects as well. So, our vision are as follows:

1. For the town area: We have been praying to God for a long time to guide us where he wants us to go. We wanted to say somewhere, where we can support ourselves financially while taking care of the remote villages up north. So God has led us to a town called Kawasati, where we can teach the people about God. There are many people (local tribes) who have been very isolated and has been needing God and we seek to help those people. Also, our team director has many relatives in that area who very interested in God and are willing to lend us land so that we can help ourselves financially. So, we have been planning to open a chicken farm, fishing farm and other agricultural works. We will be appointing the people there to work in those farms so that they can have better lives. We are planning to do children ministry by teaching them music, bible stories, tutoring them. We want to do adult literacy classes. We also wanna teach those people practice things like candle making, sewing, etc. By doing all these we seek to open doors in the heart of people so that they may know Christ. We will have our main office there from where we will be monitoring the works that we will be doing.

2. For the remote areas: Our last visit to a very remote village called Mugu has taught us much. We have known that the need there is enormous. It is very hard to work physically, financially and spiritually in that places. But some of the pentecostal leaders and pastors there have been wanting to become adventist because they love the truth so much. So we will be supplying them with Bibles, study together guides, medicines, and other things. If possible, we will be trying to get some of the youths of that places in some Bible training schools so that they can go back to their places to be the light. We will be constantly visiting them as much as God provides for us to go. And whenever God provides, we will be planning to do health expos, as health is their greatest need and a key way to open the door for ministry.

3. For the other Adventist youths: Many of the Adventist youths in our generation form the town areas have a burning passion in their hearts to work for God, while some of them are confused with their spiritual life as they lack the experience with God. But all these young people have so much potential and we believe that they can do amazing things for God. There are many churches in the remote areas where the people don’t reach to encourage them and there aren’t many leaders who can, or want to visit those places. So, we are praying that God will help us reach the youths who wants to work for him and give them the opportunity to go those places and have an amazing experience with God and those places.

To do all these, we need to register our group as a non-profit organisation, which will solely be for the benefit of God’s people. This way we can be legally strong as well.

OUR NEEDS:

As all the missionary work, God’s help with your prayers is a must. We want to thank you for all your prayers and financial support in the past. We now need to funds to register our group as an non-Government Organisation. It is very much needed legally if we want to execute any projects. We will be needing all the help we can get for being stable in that place and slowly build a church there. Then, we need funds to open the farm we mentioned above so we can continue supporting ourselves financially and that we won’t have to completely depend upon the donations. We will constantly be needing help to reach and follow up with the remote villages and to send the youths who are willing to go there.

Apart from funding, any help like volunteering, medical supplies, warm clothes, or any other things will be highly appreciated.

We are really persuaded that God wants us to work for him and we are persuaded that God will work in your hearts to support our Ministry through prayers, financially or any other way. All of your prayers will be a huge blessing for us and the people we want to work with for God. We assure you that all your help will be used for God’s cause and we will be letting you know all the details of how your money is being used .
