The Beginnings of Much Needed Aid

The Beginnings of Much Needed Aid

Lake in Mugu

After traveling for two and half days by bike and a day on foot we finally reached our destination where there is only one church with four members. Pastor Prem has been working hard for years to spread the gospel but the community seems very closed to Christianity. Mugu is a place where the majority of the people are strict Hindu. Reaching them in any other way than by medical missionary work is very hard. Since Mugu is one of the poorest districts people hardly have enough money to feed themselves and medication is the last option for common people. Many die without any Western treatments–only able to afford witch craft because it costs them much less than the hospital. It breaks my heart to see, when almost the whole world has heard about Christ and His second coming, this people have never known of Christ and His love. No help from outside has ever been provided to reach them. People from this area are still living in spiritual darkness. Whose responsibility is it to teach them about Christ? Who will ever care for their spiritual growth?

We have been touched that this is the most needy place for us to be helping the people to find Christ. I personally have been to many different remote villages of Nepal but I have never seen a community so far from the knowledge of the living God. In every eye the need of a loving Savior is so clear. As we have being praying for God to show us how to start the work here, we have seen the huge need for basic medications and even the simple knowledge of first aid and basic natural remedies could save someone’s life.

Another huge need in this district is in the area of education. There are many schools that have been operating with very few teachers. Village youth are mostly outside the country, working hard and earning money to feed their families. Many have left the villages in great need. We have been asked to help in an elementary school which teaches grades 1-8. There are 250 students being educated in this school. However, there are only three government sponsored teachers and three more from the community volunteer, leaving the student teacher ratio at more than 40:1. Even the classroom white boards are showing signs of age and good use. The white boards have been used to the point of hardly being useful. Many students have never worn a school uniform because they can’t afford one. We have been requested to help them teach 2 subjects, English and Health, for 4 periods a day.

Mugu is a very challenging place for us to be in and the work is very difficult to work. But we cannot ignore the needs. We only have a little money but an incredible amount of work to do. Alone, by ourselves, the situation is impossible. We started this journey by faith with only 5000 rupees in our pocket and God has brought us all the way here using His people and providing what we needed. God has never failed us and we know He is forever faithful. We honestly plead for you to be a part of this soul saving mission. The least you can do for these people is pray and if God moves you to help us more: financially, by volunteering your time, or in any other way it would be a huge blessing for us and the people of this area. If God is knocking at your heart for you to give, please do, and many will be blessed through your generosity. We want to thank you for the interest you have in the work of the Lord in Nepal. God bless!
